Fallout Armor
Armor
Overview
In Fallout the wardrobe system allows the players to piece together their outfit from a variety of clothing and armor choices. The system is broken up into 9 slots, and 2 layers:
Base layer
- Body (Pants, shirts, vault jumpsuits, etc.)
- Hat (Baseball caps, combat armor helmet, fedoras, etc.)
- Eye (glasses and goggles)
- Mouth (bandanas)
Armor - These are worn on top of the base layer.
- Chest - 1 minute to equip
- Right arm - 30 seconds to equip
- Left arm - 30 seconds to equip
- Right leg - 30 seconds to equip
- Left leg - 30 seconds to equip
Many wardrobe items take up multiple slots, including armor slots, limiting what other pieces they can be combined with. Each item on every layer can offer bonuses, such as different kinds of damage resistance. All of these items and their unique bonuses are detailed below. Furthermore, armor mods can be applied to select items, providing additional bonuses.
Players can enter power armor wearing any combination of clothing, adding an additional layer of armor. However, wearing power armor nullifies all bonuses provided by the lower layers.
Each piece of armor falls under one of these classifications: Normal, Legendary or Unique. Normal armors have no special bonuses applied to them. Legendary armors come with random bonuses and are mostly dropped by Legendary enemies. Unique armors are pre-named, have a special legendary bonus and are only available through certain merchants and quest rewards.
Armor Class (AC)
Your armor class is your ability to dodge incoming attacks. Your Armor Class is equal to your agility score. When you take damage for the first time during an opponent's turn or from any other type of damage that you can see, you can reduce that damage an amount equal to your Armor Class.
Elemental Damage Reduction
Your armor and other factors increase resistances to certain elements such as energy and radiation damage types. Once a resistance level reaches one of the following stages you reduce the damage by the Reduction Amount.
Resistance Reduction Amount
10 1
25 5
50 10
100 15
250 20
1000 25
2500 30 or half whichever reduces more
Damage Resistance
While wearing armor you gain a damage resistance to physical types of damages such as melee, unarmed, non-energy and non-radiation weapons. When you are hit by by one of these attacks and it hits a location that has armor you reduce the damage by an amount equal to that armors Damage Resistance. (ex. if you were hit by a melee attack in the chest dealing 10 damage and you were wearing a Raider Chest the damage would be reduced by 4.)
Note: Armor Class reduces damage before any other resistances are applied.
Cost Value
The value listed below is the absolute bare minimum the item can be purchased for. It is recommended that these values be 4-5 times the value listed below. In addition, cost can be increased by things such as lack of supplies, distance to nearest city. Cost can also be lower depending on the same factors as well as character's Barter Skill.
Armor Break
When a Crippling Hit hits a piece of your armor, that armors Damage Resistance gains a -1 reducing its effectiveness. If a piece of armor is reduced to 0 it breaks and becomes useless. Repairing armor follows the same rules as Repairing Your Weapon. *See weapons section*
